CHARACTER
NAME: Katsuki Bakugo
CANON: My Hero Academia
CANON POINT: Chapter 286
BACKGROUND: Here
SUITABILITY:
In canon, Katsuki frequently deals with life-or-death situations. Despite being only a hero student, his class (as the class of the protagonist) is often thrown into the thick of plot battles, and Katsuki himself plays the distressed dude role more often than he likes and he's been able to deal with the associated trauma and angst fairly well if roughly. A horror game won't break him down, and I think it will be interesting to test his world view in a game based around more moral choices/being possessed by a demon. While I wouldn't say he'd be totally at home (he'll never forget a goal of trying to get home) he will adapt more quickly than someone who hasn't been through the same trials might. I also don't think he would rebel to the point of putting other characters in danger given his later canon point (though I fully admit chapter 1 Bakugo would have been an entirely different animal...luckily, he's evolved some) but he would absolutely would struggle with certain decisions - stopping efforts to save the Kitsune in the TDM was a hard call, for example, because it goes against everything he wants to be as a person. How he'd react to something "against his values" honestly depends on the exact situation - some things he would be willing to do, some he'd dig his heels in about, but I believe his particular mindset would be interesting to put through it.QUESTIONNAIRE:
He actually as a character tends to be fairly black and white on his way of thinking at first glance, but he's learning more nuance to things even if he's still a fairly strict person about "heroism" and "villainy" (despite his personality 100% being more suited to the latter he's firmly all about the former). In terms of demons I am choosing Okami because I believe it will have an interesting effect on his personality; Katsuki himself despite being a hero has trouble reining in his "ferocious tendencies", so a demon that keeps him in check there and forces patience would force him to grow up some (or make him really angry, depending) and while he likes punishing evil he's less about the caring side of things so that will be difficult for him as well. I also think eventually sensing people's morality/seeing memories could challenge his usual world views, and wanted to explore that as well.
● Your character finds an injured okami deep in the woods. Its leg is broken, trapped under a fallen tree, but it’s clearly in good health otherwise. They know this type of youkai is able to discern the morality of their past actions, and can turn hostile to them based off that judgment. What do they do?Even if Katsuki believed the youkai would turn hostile because of his past - possible, since he was a bully to the protagonist of his canon in their youth due to being afraid of said idiot's reckless nature - he would help anyway. He'd never admit to any sort of sappy reasoning behind this because none really exists for him, but Katsuki decided at a very young age that he wanted to be a hero. Heroes Help Save People - granted, Katsuki focused for a very long time on the winning aspect of being a Hero, but he's had it pounded into his head by now that saving people is another kind of winning and is equally important. So, even if he considered that he could get injured in the process he'd approach to help rather than wasting time grabbing someone else, which could allow something more dangerous than him to come along and snap up the easy pickings. That said, he'd 100% bitch at the Okami if it snapped at him...and probably even if it didn't. "Bedside manner" is a foreign concept to Katsuki.● Your character's worst enemy asks to meet alone by moonlight in a remote location, to discuss temporarily banding together against a larger threat. How do they respond to the invitation?Considering his "worst enemy" would absolutely be All For One, a psychotic villian who steals Quirks and forces them on people and who has his fingers in a lot of genetic experiments and turning people into mindless monsters and whose subordinates kidnapped him and who himself brought down Katsuki's biggest hero? He'd do his unhinged laugh and refuse. Early canon Katsuki would have gone to the location alone to kick the guy's ass, but current canon Katsuki would report it to the adults. That villain is way too big to mess with alone and being a kid they had to protect who got caught by the villains fucked over way too many people, something Katsuki struggles with to this day.● Your character has the option to lead a rampaging oni away from path where it would find and attack a lone, inhabited farmhouse. However, the only road they can distract it down leads to the city, where it will inevitably do more damage. What do they choose to do?
If the villain in question were slightly less utterly unhinged and homicidal and were a more sympathetic sort...well, even then Katsuki would say "no". He's not a fan of villains. I think forcing him to learn to deal with his potential villain castmates would be very interesting (Dabi's player and I discussed positive pre-existing demon CR to keep them in check and from trying to strangle one another, which means Katsuki will actually have to talk to the guy, or at least not do his level best to punch the dude). He wouldn't lead the demon away. He would probably call for help on the shitty cell phones if possible, but leading the demon towards a place with more non-combatants just wouldn't make sense logistically, even if it also leads the demon towards potentially more combatants. He'd try to make certain the inhabitants of the farmhouse got out by using himself to distract the demon, but he wouldn't be willing to trade a few strangers for a lot of strangers. The question would perhaps be more difficult if he knew the people at the farmhouse and were attached to them, but Katsuki would still probably make the "right" choice of not throwing more people into danger...while absolutely making the "wrong" one of trying to take the demon on himself until backup arrived, if it ever did.● A shrine of a powerful god offers your character a unique boon crafted to overcome the biggest challenge they’re currently facing. In return, it only asks to be able to possess your character for a 24 hour span of its choosing, which they will not necessarily get warning for. How do they feel about the exchange, and more importantly, do they accept it?This is for Katsuki a hilariously easy no. Not because he's worried about what the god would do while possessing him, mind, but because he would be offended at the idea he couldn't overcome his biggest challenge all on his own. What kind of weak, half-hearted bullshit is that?? He doesn't need any help from some shady ass powerful god offering him a get out of jail free card!YOUKAI: Okami
And yeah, to a lesser extent the deal itself just isn't his thing. He's very, very smart despite his everything and Katsuki realizes that a no-rules possession whenever the god wants for a single day could end very, very badly for him. Besides that, he doesn't like the idea of anyone taking control of him at all; even dealing with the Okami he's possessed by will be difficult for a guy who has been forced into physical and metaphorical chains more than he likes - making the choice to willingly give up his body and mind to something else just for a cheat code would go against everything he is. He can go it alone (or with...the Okami, whatEVER).
